There are three thematic areas, Viz. Biotechnology, Biomanufacturing and Bioeconomy which will discuss the potential of different thrust areas or subtracks in shaping the national mission of Viksit Bharat (developed India).

Thematic Area: BIOTECHNOLOGY (DAY 01)

The Biotechnology Thematic Area is structured into three focused subtracks; Agro-Food; Pharmacogenomics; Biodiversity and Bioprospecting.

AGRO-FOOD

This subtrack focuses on leveraging biotechnology to revolutionize agriculture and food production, ensuring global food security and sustainability.dedicated forum for exploring transformative innovations at the intersection of agriculture, biotechnology, and food systems. This track, integral to the overarching theme of BioE3: Biotechnology for Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Economy, emphasizes leveraging biotechnological advancements to ensure global food security, sustainable agricultural practices, and resilient food systems. With the growing demand for sustainable solutions to feed an ever-increasing global population, the Agro-Food Track will focus on role of biotechnology in development of agrobiologicals such as advancements in biofertilizers, biopesticides, plant growth-promoting bioinoculants, and microbial technologies to improve crop resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses, crop productivity and soil health.

Techniques like precision farming, functional foods and bioprocessing technologies, aiming towards improvement of food quality, nutritional values and shelf life. In food biotechnology, use of innovative bioprocesses such as fermentation technologies, development of alternative foods and proteins, and value-added products for a sustainable and circular bioeconomy. By addressing critical challenges such as food security, climate resilience, and resource sustainability, the Agro-Food Track aspires to be a catalyst for actionable insights and technological breakthroughs, ensuring the agro-food sector becomes a cornerstone of a sustainable Viksit Bharat (Developed India).

PHARMAGENOMICS

The Pharmagenomics Track at BIO3: Biotechnology, Biomanufacturing, and Bioeconomy is a cutting-edge segment dedicated to exploring the role of pharmacogenomics in revolutionizing healthcare through personalized medicine. This subtrack leverages biotechnological innovations to transform healthcare systems and improve patient outcomes. Pharmacogenomics, the study of how genetic variations influence an individual’s response to drugs, is at the forefront of modern medicine, promising to enhance therapeutic efficacy, minimize adverse drug reactions, and optimize treatment regimens.

This track shall focus on precision medicine i.e. breakthroughs in personalized therapeutics, targeted drug development based on genetic profiles; identifying biomarkers and genetic polymorphisms to predict drug efficacy and safety; role of AI and bioinformatics in transforming the field by enabling large-scale genomic data analysis for drug discovery and development as well as patient outcomes. It shall also focus on the application of pharmacogenomics in managing chronic diseases, cancer, and rare genetic disorders.

By showcasing how pharmacogenomics is reshaping drug development and therapeutic strategies, this track aspires to catalyze innovation and entrepreneurship in precision medicine, contributing to a healthier, more resilient society.

BIODIVERSITY & BIOPROSPECTING

The Biodiversity & Bioprospecting Track at BIO3is dedicated to exploring the vast potential of natural resources in advancing biotechnology and fostering sustainable development.Biodiversity is a treasure trove of biological resources, offering unparalleled opportunities for discovering novel biomolecules, enzymes, and genes with diverse applications.

The track shall comprise of strategies for identifying and characterizing bioactive compounds, enzymes, and metabolites from plants, microbes, fungi, and marine organisms for applications in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and industrial biotechnology.

This trach would also foresee the use of cutting-edge genomics, metagenomics and genetic engineering strategies to modify organisms for biomanufacturing of low volume high value products apart from showcasing the biodiversity derived innovations in different sectors such as pharmaceuticals, energy, environment and sustainable materials. It shall emphasize on importance of preserving biodiversity hotspots, sustainable harvesting practices, and equitable sharing of benefits derived from bioprospecting.

The track will feature deliberations by leading biodiversity researchers, presentations on cutting-edge bioprospecting methodologies, and interactive sessions to discuss the challenges and opportunities in harnessing biodiversity for biotechnological applications.

Thematic Area: BIOMANUFACTURING (DAY 02)

The thematic area focuses on the transformative potential of biotechnological innovations in revolutionizing manufacturing processes. In alignment with the overarching theme, BioE3: Biotechnology for Empowerment, Entrepreneurship, and Economy, and India's vision of Viksit Bharat (Developed India), this thematic area seeks to position biomanufacturing as a key driver of sustainable industrial development and economic growth. The Biomanufacturing Thematic Area is organized into three specialized subtracks, each addressing key aspects of biotechnology-driven manufacturing

DRUG DISCOVERY AND SYNTHETIC BIOLOGY

This sub-track explores the integration of synthetic biology and biomanufacturing to accelerate drug discovery and production. The topics are oriented towards advances in synthetic biology for creating novel therapeutic molecules and biologics, Biotransformations, biocatalysis and green chemistry for efficient drug synthesis/ production; Microbial platforms and engineered cell factories for discovery of small molecule drugs and computational approaches and AI in lead identification and drug design.

VACCINES AND STEM CELL THERAPEUTICS

Vaccines and stem cell therapeutics play a crucial role in redefining the modern therapeutic medicine. This subtrack focuses on breakthrough in vaccine development and stem cell-based therapies addressing global challenges in health. The track would focus on, using mRNA, DNA and recombinant technologies for development of next generation of vaccines, scalable biomanufacturing to combat epidemics and pandemics and stem cell therapies for regenerative medicine and chronic disease management.

BIOMATERIALS, HEALTHCARE, AND DIAGNOSTICS

This subtrack emphasizes the creation of innovative biomaterials and diagnostic solutions for precision medicine and healthcare. It would cover different facets beginning with development of biomaterials for medical implants, tissue engineering and drug delivery, development of point of care diagnostics, biosensors, and rapid testing kits, biomanufacturing of healthcare products and integration of diagnostics with AI and machine learning for personalized healthcare solutions.

Thematic Area: BIOECONOMY (DAY 03)

The Bioeconomy Thematic Area at BIO3 highlights the transformative potential of biotechnology in driving sustainable economic growth.It explores the intersection of biotechnology and sustainable development, showcasing how bio-based solutions can drive economic growth, innovation, and environmental stewardship.

GRASSROOT TECHNOLOGIES AND FRUGAL INNOVATIONS

The subtrack is democratizing biotechnology, and emphasizes on the development and deployment of affordable, accessible, and impactful biotechnologies tailored for rural and underserved communities. This primarily comprises of development of low-cost bio-based solutions for agriculture, healthcare, and waste management, promoting grassroots entrepreneurship through decentralized biomanufacturing systems, case studies of community-led innovations and their scalability potential and Integration of traditional knowledge with modern biotechnology for localized solutions.

BIOFUELS & BIOENERGY

This subtrack is oriented towards powering the future sustainability. It focuses on leveraging biotechnology to produce clean and renewable energy sources, contributing to global energy security and climate change mitigation. It shall encompass advanced biofuels production technologies, microbial and algal systems for sustainable energy production etc.

SUSTAINABLE BIOTECHNOLOGIES

This subtrack explores sustainable biotechnology solutions that promote environmental conservation and resource efficiency. The focus of this track shall be on biotechnological approaches for carbon capture, bioremediation, and pollution control; development of biodegradable materials, bioplastics, and sustainable packaging solutions; Circular bioeconomy models for waste valorization and resource recovery; Role of biotechnology in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
